Drive Through Pallet Racking

Drive in rack and drive thru rack systems are a cost effective solution to high density storage.

Drive through pallet racking. Drive through is used to store many pallets of a similar sku or product. Selectivity is sacrificed compared to selective systems but storage density is enhanced since many pallets are stored and are available through a single pallet position. Drive in pallet racks and drive thru racks are rolled formed. Pallets are loaded on one side of the rack and retrieved from the opposite side.

Drive thru racking systems are based on the same concept but are located in an open area so that forklifts can drive completely through the rack system. Product is stored several pallets deep and handling equipment enters the industrial rack structure to slot or extract pallets. The only limitation to the depth of pallet storage is the capability to drive deep within the system.

All operators in a drive thru rack system need to adhere to strict safety guidelines because of the tight tolerances of the pallet rack and limited operating space. Also called drive through racks this style of pallet rack features the same design as drive in pallet rack but instead of being closed off at one end the rack system is open at both ends allowing forklifts to drive through it. A drive in pallet racking system uses a single input output point per storage bay creating last in first out lifo access. Drive through racks store a large amount of similar loads in a smaller area.

Because drive in storage is subject to more abuse than any other rack configuration this industrial pallet rack is manufactured using sk3000 structural rack to better stand up to this. Most high density drive in pallet racking systems are little more than conventional pallet racks adapted and reinforced to meet the stringent demands of drive in applications. Drive in rack and drive thru racking are terms that are often used interchangeably. In some environments it can be difficult to differentiate between the two.

This static system has rails running the depth of the rack for pallet placement. Typically drive in racking requires operators to drive into the racking system from one side and remove pallets from the same entry point. Traditional pallet rack is a great storage solution for a wide variety of warehouses and distribution centers.
