Determine The Best Ceiling Fan Size
A guideline for sizing ceiling fans has been determined by the american lighting association.
Determine the best ceiling fan size. For ceilings under 8 feet consider investing in a low profile ceiling fan instead of fans with a downrod. In terms of sizing your ceiling fan for your bedroom there are two common size options for bedrooms. If you have a regular sized bedroom of 144 to 225 square feet then a medium ceiling fan with a blade span of 44 to 50 inches will be a great fit. A room with up to 75 square feet can.
For adequate air circulation the fan blades should hang 8 inches or more from the ceiling. Eight to nine feet will allow for optimal circulation. Standard ceiling fans include a downrod ranging in length from 2 inches to 10 inches which is suitable for standard size rooms with a ceiling height of eight to nine feet. Leave at least 2 or 3 feet of space between the end of the fan blade to the closest wall to determine the largest size fan you can put in a room 3 feet for ceilings 9 feet or less 2 feet for higher ceilings.
For higher ceilings you can use fans with downrods such as the ball ceiling fan to achieve the right height. Recommended fan width based on the length of the longest wall in your room. For rooms between 75 and 144 square feet your ceiling fan should have a diameter of 36 to 42 inches. Length of longest wall is less than 12 feet your fan width or blade span should be 36 inches or less length of longest wall is 12 to 15 feet your fan width or blade span should be 40 to 48 inches.
Downrods range in diameter and length depending on the type of ceiling fan you re using and its application. A small 10 x 10 room could accommodate a 48 to 72 fan. Determine the size of your downrod. For rooms 75 square feet or smaller your ceiling fan should be 36 inches 91 4 cm or less in diameter.
Ceiling fan blades range from 29 inches to 54 inches. Ceiling heights are more or less standard now and most modern constructions especially for individual homes are likely to feature ceilings at 10 feet distance from the floor. Otherwise you may suffer poor air circulation. Determine at what height your fan needs to be suspended based on the height of your ceiling and whether the ceiling has a slope.
For safety the bottom of the fan needs to be at least 7 feet above the floor. Conversely spaces in the home with limited ceiling to floor height think bedrooms offices breakfast nooks etc require a low profile or flushmount ceiling fan. To meet building codes the bottom of the fan should be at least seven feet off the floor. You will want to check your fan to ensure that its cfm rating is anywhere between 1 600 and 4 500.
